The following McMurry University students have been named to the Fall 2018 Dean's List. To be eligible for the Dean's List, a student must have maintained at least a 3.5 grade point average while taking twelve or more credit hours.

The following students are members of the McMurry War Hawks Student-Athlete Advisory Committee. A student-athlete advisory committee (SAAC) is a committee made up of student-athletes assembled to provide insight on the student-athlete experience. The SAAC offers input on the rules, regulations and policies that affect studentathletes' lives. There is a SAAC at the institution, conference and national levels. Presently, there are separate national SAACs for NCAA Divisions I, II and III. NCAA legislation mandates that all member institutions have SAACs on their respective campuses. Further, NCAA legislation requires that all member conferences have SAACs.

The McMurry University Kinesiology Club helps students in their professional growth, enhances their resume, allows them to get involved with campus activities, and promotes healthy lifestyles and quality Physical Education. Members are eligible to attend State, District and National Conventions.

Five McMurry University scholar-athletes were among the 68 American Southwest Conference competitors named to the league's Distinguished Scholar-Athlete Teams for fall 2017. The ASC academic accolades are selected from the sports of women's and men's cross country, football, women's and men's soccer and volleyball. The Distinguished Scholar-Athlete Teams recognizes student-athletes who achieve a high level of academic achievement (a 3.20 grade-point average or better) while competing as a starter or important reserve on their team. From that list - limited to one nominee per school in each ASC championship sport - the sports information directors from the 13 ASC member institutions and two affiliate members select a Distinguished Scholar-Athlete in each sport.

A total of 27 McMurry University scholar-athletes have been named to the American Southwest Conference 2017 Fall All-Academic Team honor roll. The honorees were selected from the ASC sports of men's and women's cross country, men's and women's soccer, football, and volleyball. To be eligible for ASC All-Academic honors, student-athletes must be classified academically as a sophomore, junior, senior or graduate student during the competition season and have been in attendance and completed at least one academic year (two consecutive semesters) at their institution. They must also have a 3.0 cumulative grade point average (GPA) as certified at the conclusion of the academic semester in which the ASC sport championship is held.

McMurry University volleyball players Justice McGowan (Soph./Waco, Texas/University H.S.) and Odalis Rodriguez (Jr./El Paso, Texas/Chapin H.S.) were both named as National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) All-Americans, as the organization's post-season awards were announced. McGowan was named as a first team NCCAA All-American and Rodriguez was tabbed on the second team. Additionally, McM sophomore Jordyn Burnell (Sinton, Texas/Sinton H.S.) was named to the all-tournament team for the NCCAA volleyball national championships, which concluded last Saturday at the Kissimmee Civic Center.

The McMurry University volleyball team - which will begin play in the 2017 National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) Division I National Championships later this week - earned numerous honors on the NCCAA All-Central Region Team, it was announced. Heading the awards was sophomore Justice McGowan (Waco, Texas/University H.S.), selected as the "Player of the Year," and McM head coach Cammie Petree (22 seasons), who was tabbed as the NCCAA Central Region "Coach of the Year."

Just over a year ago, McMurry University Director of Athletics Sam Ferguson launched a program he had long envisioned, targeting young scholar-athletes and designed to accelerate and enhance their leadership potential. With that, Ferguson instituted McMurry's Scholar-Athlete Leadership Academy (SALA) for the War Hawks' intercollegiate athletics department. The premise of the SALA is simple: identify freshmen or sophomore scholar-athletes who have those skills commonly identified in team leaders and help provide them a foundation before they are thrust into leadership roles on their respective teams. The SALA helps them become even stronger by the time they are upperclassmen via lectures and real-world experiences. Some of the key areas that the SALA focuses on are conflict resolution, valuing differences, leadership and character, and the power of positivity. The program's launch in 2016-17 consisted of participants selected by coaches and events consisting of speakers who came to campus. But it laid the groundwork for the future. Now, in just its second year, the SALA has ballooned to 30 of McM's best and brightest scholar-athletes. Each SALA member had to apply for acceptance into the program and will have the chance to be involved in several exciting opportunities to learn and grow in 2017-18.

The McMurry University volleyball team has been seeded No. 5 for the 10-team National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) Division I Volleyball Championships, it was announced by the national office. The NCCAA national championship event takes place Thursday-Saturday, November 30-December 2, at the Kissimmee Civic Center in Kissimmee, Florida.

- For the third time in its history, the McMurry University volleyball team has claimed the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) Central Region championship - and will advance to the national tournament - after defeating Southwestern Assemblies of God, 3-1, at Kimbrell Arena. The War Hawks (23-7) won by set scores of 22-25, 25-11, 25-21, 25-20, over the Lady Lions (27-7). Additionally, the victory had double significance for McM in that it was also career coaching victory number 400 for War Hawks' head coach Cammie Petree in her 22 seasons at the McM helm. Petree has a .610 winning percentage in her three separate stints at the McM helm, with a record of 400-256.

McMurry University's volleyball team - which finished third in the American Southwest Conference (ASC) West Division standings - enjoyed the fruits of its labor with several post-season honors bestowed by the league's coaches. For the second consecutive season, sophomore Justice McGowan headed the cast of McMurry University volleyball players selected for American Southwest Conference (ASC) post-season awards. In addition to McGowan, junior Odalis Rodriguez, sophomore Jordyn Burnell and junior Jasmine Jones were also recognized from the War Hawks squad. McM has a 21-7 record and will host the National Christian College Athletic Association Central Region tournament on November 16-18 at Kimbrell Arena.

For the second-consecutive season, the McMurry University women's basketball program has been honored with the American Southwest Conference "Team Sportsmanship Award." The War Hawks shared the award for the ASC West Division with Sul Ross State University.

Through membership in one of the men's or women's social clubs at McMurry, students have opportunities for special involvement in intramurals, Homecoming, Presentation, Sing Song, and Slime Olympics, to name a few. Social clubs also leave lasting memories of friendship, leadership, acceptance of responsibility, and scholastic excellence.

McMurry University's volleyball team was one of eight American Southwest Conference schools recognized by the 13 conference Student-Athlete Advisory Committees as recipients of ASC-SAAC Team Sportsmanship awards for the fall 2016 sport seasons. The SAAC Team Sportsmanship award honors the member institution in each ASC championship sport that best displays positive qualities of sportsmanship and fair play from its student-athletes, coaches and fans throughout the season.
